Frequently Asked Questions

What is kahst?

A kahst is an online contest for human beings (other life forms may play too) to make predictions about future events. You can pit yourself against friends or the rest of the world to see who the best predictor is.

How is kahst different from a poll?

Polls are just collections of worthless opinions – there’s no right answer. A kahst is a collection of valuable predictions and there is a final result. In fact, the results from a kahst may even be predictive of the actual final result.

Why should I play kahst?

Are you smarter than your friends? You can challenge your friends and try to beat them.

Do you think that you can predict the outcome of future events better than anyone else? You can create and play all kinds of different kahsts and find out just how good you are.

How do I play?

It’s free to play. Anyone over the age of 13 can play kahst. Just follow our easy registration process and you’ll be ready to play. Then, click on any kahst question and enter your best prediction. Then play as many kahsts as you like – the more you play the higher your potential ranking.

How can I challenge my friends?

You can challenge them to a barefoot race in a parking lot or you can create a club against which you can challenge and compare your predictive abilities to. A group could contain your family, your friends, your co-workers, your fantasy football club, your book club, your therapy group, etc. The group can create new kahsts or play existing kahsts. Scoring the group is done on the kahsts that most members have played and the ranking is calculated accordingly. This will give you ultimate bragging rights with your friends. Isn’t life sweet?

How do I know how good I am?

You can’t hide. We keep track of your every move. Each kahst you participate in is scored. Even if your prediction isn’t exactly right you can still gain valuable points. Go to your personal ranking page to see how you performed versus your friends, your clubs, people in your city, people in other countries, people in your age range, etc.

Scoring secrets?

There are three simple scoring secrets: Play early, play often and look for large crowds to maximize your points.

  1. Time bonus: For a given kahst, the earlier you play, the higher your potential score (correct predictions made early are worth more than later predictions).
  2. Frequency bonus: The more you play the greater your potential score.
  3. Crowd bonus: The bigger the crowd, the more available bonus points for all participants. This will help ensure than uninteresting kahsts or poorly written questions die on the vine.
What if I’m great at this?

You could become quite famous! If you know in advance what the future will bring, don’t you think that everyone will want to know you? Your brain might actually become quite valuable - you didn’t think that was possible did you? You’d better open a Swiss bank account and hire a bodyguard.

How do I create a kahst?

Anyone can create a kahst. That’s free too. Just follow an easy three step process. Of course, if you create a kahst you have the awesome responsibility to close out the kahst (enter the final result) at the end so that it can be scored. If you fail to close out your kahsts you will be kahstrated and you will no longer be able to create new kahsts!

Why become a kahst creator?

What else are you going to do with all of your time? Kahst creators can make a name for themselves too. Players can sign up to be notified when their favorite creators list new kahsts. Creators are scored based on the number of successfully completed kahsts and on how many people played – the larger the crowd the more points the creators can earn. Creators will also be ranked versus other creators and the results displayed on the creator ranking page.

Do we have any rules?

  1. Quit work. Play often. Get others to play.
  2. You only get one guess per kahst. Obviously you can easily circumvent this rule by registering for kahst multiple times with different email addresses. So, go ahead, we dare you to break this rule.
  3. When you create your own kahsts, please try not to offend too many people. We give people the ability to complain about things, and we reserve the right to close down any kahsts at any time for any reason. We don’t have any standards we plan to follow, but it might be fun for us to exercise our powers very now and then.
  4. Those are enough rules for now. We reserve the right to add more when we feel like it.
